tldr;


the production phase of the BLANK pilot is done, and we're now in this complex, post-production threshold. we're currently managing cash flow, editing costs, ongoing programming, and a 39-week pregnancy. this phase raises the question: is systemic and personal friction a barrier to building, or is chaos is simply a genuine part of the architecture?


navigating the post-production threshold and the realities of creative leadership.


on april 26th, we had a professional crew film and document the pilot episode at the sandbox. the energy on set was everything we expected from start to finish. the creative process itself became the drama, and the talent we selected proved they were ready for a professional stage. it was a milestone moment, but we learned wrapping a shoot is simply a transition into a different kind of pressure.


we are currently operating in the space between production and distribution. it is a phase characterized by a heavy convergence of operational costs, future programming deadlines, and a deep personal milestones... specifically, being in week 39 of pregnancy with baby number two. it is an environment that forces a question every builder eventually faces: is this friction a sign of a structural flaw, or is chaos a genuine part of the build?


the architecture of the middle phase


the traditional media landscape likes to present creative builds as linear, perfectly funded sequences. but for an independent non-profit, the middle phase is a masterclass in resource allocation and resilience.


the strongest element is accepting that this journey means learning as you go. each day requires you to navigate that which you don't know, and that requires you to have some faith in your decision making.


  • the post-production economy: the footage is secured, but the editing room requires its own dedicated capital. balancing the funding for post-production with the baseline operational expenses of the org is a delicate calculation.

  • sustaining the momentum: a pilot is a proof of concept, which means our broader programming cannot stop while we wait for the final edit. we are actively progressing future initiatives to ensure the platform expands beyond this single episode.

  • the biological deadline: managing cash flow and executive producer duties at 39 weeks pregnant introduces a level of biological urgency that textbooks do not account for. it's a way of operation for which there is no "womanual"... nor do there exist many examples of this type of corporate leadership in action. yet, it still requires a style of execution that is agile, responsive, and comfortable with fluid timelines.


the BLANK perspective: embracing the friction


at BLANK, we have never defined success by the presence of a frictionless environment. as founders of jamaican, canadian and nigerian heritage, we live out the friction of choosing to not to walk the predictable job and pension lanes because we want to build something ancestral and lasting.


chaos is not a sign of failure... it is the raw material of a first-time build. if we waited for a moment where the bills were completely silent, the schedule was empty, and the world felt stable, the stage would never be built.


we are managing the editing room and prepping for a new life at the exact same time. it is intense, requires a high degree of trust in our team, and it is the most honest reflection of what it means to create space for a community. we are drawing the blueprint while we build the house, and accepting this is exactly how legacy is made.
